Victoria Azarenka has cruised into the second round of the US Open with an easy victory over Alexandra Panova of Russia. Azarenka won the match in the straight sets by 6-0, 6-1. The scorecard itself tells the story of the match. It was a completely one sided match and Panova managed to win just one game in the entire match. Azarenka played some delightful shots and smashed a number of winners in the match. Azarenka’s form hasn’t been that good recently, but, in this match, she played some high quality tennis and it was a pleasure to watch her play.
Azarenka, who has been given the top seed in this competition, was on fire in the first set. She didn’t let her opponent win even a single game in the opening set. She broke Panova’s service thrice and grabbed the first set by 6-0. Azarenka was off to a flyer in the second set as well. She broke Panova’s service in the first and the third game of the second set and won the first three games consecutively to take a lead of 3-0. Panova managed to win her first game in the match by sneaking a breakthrough in the 4th game. However, that breakthrough didn’t have much impact on the match as Azarenka won the last three games in a row to seal the match.
In the post match interview, Panova said that Azarenka was in tremendous form and she played amazingly well. As per Panova, she tried her best, but, it was Azarenka’ day and it was very hard to stop her. On the other hand, Azarenka was delighted about her performance in the match. The Belarusian superstar said that she hadn’t been playing that well in the recent times and she was not that confident before going into the match. However, she is very happy to win the match in such a dominating fashion. In the second round, Azarenka will play against Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium.
The no. 1 player in the world, Victoria Azarenka, has defeated Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania in the first round of the Women’s tennis singles tournament of London Olympics. It was a rain interrupted encounter. Azarenka was not able to win the match easily. The young Romanian gave her a good fight. The scorecard 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 itself says that the match was not one-sided.
Azarenka started the match pretty well and won the first set by 6-1. But, Irina came back in the match strongly and won the second set by 6-3. However, the experience and quality of Azarenka was too much for Irina in the final set. Azarenka won the third set by 6-1 and went into the second round. After the match, Azarenka said that she made some big mistakes in the second set. In the second set, Irina broke Azarenka’s service several times. According to Azarenka, she has to work a bit on his service. Such mistakes could be costly in the upcoming matches.
Azarenka said that when she plays for herself, she doesn’t feel too much pressure. But, when she plays for her country, she often gets nervous. According to Azarenka, when you play on Centre court after a while, it is not easy to control your shots. She admitted that she was not at her best in the match and if she has to win a medal, she would have to improve her service.
As per Azarenka, the rain also affected her concentration. She had to play the match yesterday, but, due to the rain, she had to wait for too long. In the second round, Azarenka will play against Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain. Maria won her first match pretty easily. She defeated Polona Hercog of Slovenia in the straight sets by 6-2, 6-4. Azarenka should be very careful against Maria and should not repeat the same mistakes in the second round match.
The Belarusian tennis player, Victoria Azarenka, was practicing on the Wimbledon practice court before going into the semifinal match against Serena Williams. She was practicing with a yellow T-shirt on. But, the rules of Wimbledon are very strict. Even if you are practicing on the practice court, you have to wear the white clothes. One of the officials went to Azarenka and told her that she should be wearing a white T-shirt. He also gave her a white T-shirt to wear. But, Azarenka didn’t look happy with that white T-shirt. She said that she wasn’t feeling comfortable in that white T-shirt.
Azarenka was in fine form before the semi final against Serena. She played wonderful tennis in the quarter final match against Tamira Paszek. She outplayed the young Austrian and defeated her by 6-3, 7-6. However, Tamira played well in the second set and gave a good fight to the Australian open champion. But, she wasn’t able to keep her nerves in the tie-breaker and lost the game. After winning the quarter final match, Victoria said that Serena is a great player and to play the semifinal match against her would be a privilege. On being asked about Tamira, Victoria said that Tamira is a good, young player and the more she will play, the more she will improve.
The recent form of Serena Williams is not that good. She was defeated in the very first round of the French open by an unknown player named Virginie Razzano, who was ranked no. 111 in the official rankings of World Tennis Association (WTA). After that there have been talks that Serena has started to fade. But, there is no doubt that she has been a great player over the years and it would not be easy for Azarenka to win the semifinal match.
